Missouri Votes to Block Obama's Health Insurance Mandate

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Missouri voters on Tuesday overwhelmingly rejected a key provision of President Barack Obama's health care law, sending a clear message of discontent to Washington and Democrats less than 100 days before the midterm elections.


About 71 percent of Missouri voters backed a ballot measure, Proposition C, that would prohibit the government from requiring people to have health insurance or from penalizing them for not having it.

The Missouri law conflicts with a federal requirement that most people have health insurance or face penalties starting in 2014.

Tuesday's vote was seen as largely symbolic because federal law generally trumps state law. But it was also seen as a sign of growing voter disillusionment with federal policies and a show of strength by conservatives and the tea party movement.

"To us, it symbolized everything," said Annette Read, a tea party participant from suburban St. Louis who quit her online retail job to lead a yearlong campaign for the Missouri ballot measure. "The entire frustration in the country ... how our government has misspent, how they haven't listened to the people, this measure in general encompassed all of that."  Full Story

Obama makes recess appointment; picks Dr. Donald Berwick “ We must redistribute wealth” to run Medicare and Medicaid Services

WASHINGTON -- President Obama Wednesday bypassed the Senate and announced the recess appointment Dr. Donald Berwick to be the administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

The move drew fire from Republicans who had planned to fight his nomination. Obama said the job had to be filled.

"It's unfortunate that at a time when our nation is facing enormous challenges, many in Congress have decided to delay critical nominations for political purposes," Obama said.

The New York-born pediatrician is clinical professor of pediatrics and health care policy in the Department of Pediatrics at the Harvard Medical School. He is well regarded by medical groups, but conservatives say his views are "radical."

Under the recess appointment, Berwick will avoid the Senate nomination process and he will serve until the end of the year, when the congressional term expires.

"Democrats held no hearing, allowed no public testimony, and called no votes on this nomination," said Republican Study Committee Chairman Tom Price (R-Ga.).

"In short, they did everything to hide Dr. Berwick's radical views and made absolutely no effort to follow the regular, established process for confirming a presidential nomination. Clearly, they did not want Berwick's adamant support for rationing health care debated in the light of day."

Berwick supporters scoffed at GOP complaints and accused them of stonewalling.

"Republican lockstep stalling of Don's nomination was a case study in cynicism and one awful example of how not to govern," said Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.). "Republicans screamed that these federal programs were in trouble, then tried to deny the Administration the capable guy the President had chosen to oversee them."

National Health Care

It would be nice to have a national health care system but we as citizens cannot afford to pay the cost of it, as you know nothing is Free in life all countries like Germany, France, Britain, Canada have some what of a good government plan for all citizens But these folks pay for it in the payroll taxes up to 7% of there income, sales taxes, and gas taxes and that just covers basic health insurance if they want more then the basic they have to pay for it out of there pocket. This is how other countries pay for there state sponsored health Insurance.

Payroll Taxes 7% and higher for some countries
How about a Television Tax to watch T.V or a Habitation Tax whether you own a property or not this tax is based on location and size of family.Gas Taxes in Germany, France, Britain and Canada are 60% to 75% of the cost of gas per barrel so taking 70% the tax would be $5.60 plus the base price of gas of $3.39 per gallon = $8.99 per gallon.

All I hear is from the candidates is we need too cover all citizens with a National Health Care how do we pay for it.

All of the other countries populations is smaller then the U.S population and in fact here is the populations of all four countries:

U.S Baby Boomer population of 78,997,409 is bigger then 3 of the 4 countries listed above in population.

I still ask how do we pay for National Health Care when it could cost the tax payer as much as
1 trillion dollars too put into place, that's a lot of money and yes our taxes would go up but maybe nobody would mind paying all of our money towards taxes, its funny how we always talk about other countries and all the great things they do for there Citizens (like making them pay 19% in sales tax and $9.00 a gallon for gas and don't for get the great (Habitation Tax whether you own a property or not this tax is based on location and size of family). Everybody wants a free ride but nobody wants to pay for it.
